Windows 11 preserves the familiar environment but requires compatible hardware, including TPM 2.0. A Linux desktop can extend the useful life of some devices, but every critical application, peripheral and workflow must be checked first. Move the working environment
Migration is more than copying document folders. User profiles, local and shared files, access rights, templates, printers and everyday working practices all need attention. Macros, complex templates and integrations built around specific Windows applications usually require the most analysis. We document each dependency, define whether it can be moved or replaced and validate the result on a representative workstation before wider rollout. Users receive a clear summary of changes and practical guidance for common tasks.
Assess application dependency first
A Linux decision cannot be based on device specifications alone. We list the applications, file formats, macros, equipment and external systems required by each role. If a role depends on a small number of replaceable applications, migration may be practical. When several critical dependencies have no validated alternative, we recommend retaining Windows and planning compatible hardware. This decision is made before deployment, not while users are already being moved.

No, and we establish that before work begins. If a critical application has no viable replacement, we recommend keeping that role on Windows.
Must every older computer be replaced?
No. Some devices may support Windows 11, others may suit Linux, and only machines without an acceptable path require replacement.
